YouTube Kids app, which was launched in the UK and Ireland, will feature local channels funded by family friendly advertisements. The app, which was launched in the US in early 2016, has been downloaded by more than 10 million American parents. It filters videos and channels ensuring that they are appropriate for children.

The Android and iOS app does not have social features such as comments and the ability to upload videos. It also blocks inappropriate search terms and has a built-in time to limit how long children can use it.

Among those that will be featured for YouTube Kids in the UK is Morph.

“It’s a whole new space in which we can reach new fans,” said Alix Wiseman, Aardman’s head of sales and acquisitions.

“We’re reaching new audiences through a new platform and a new channel, with new content that we’ve been able to make, but based on an Aardman brand that was built 40 years ago. It’s brilliant that YouTube have seen this opportunity.”

YouTube Kids has also launched in Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
